It’s a rare thing to know that someone is rooting for you. You spend so much of your life believing in yourself and putting your sweat and blood into a project, but if someone doesn’t throw you a line every now and again you start to wonder what’s the point? And there’s only so much of “doing it for yourself” you can do before the lack of resources makes it a logistical impossibility.
The fact is, I’ve been writing “for myself” for a couple of decades now. I’ve only recently found the courage to start asking people to give me money for the ideas in my head. And in order to ask for such, I need to present them with a nice pretty package.
Imagine my surprise when I see a check in the mail from some dear friends who love my writing and wanted to make a contribution to my book cover fund. In addition to my thanks, they of course will get all of the same perks that the donors to Gofundme will get, including a free copy of the new book, and they will be inserted as characters somewhere in the narrative of a future work. (And I never get tired of finding ways to give a shout out to the people in my life through my work).
Thank you Sandra and Patrick.
